Many laboratories experience problems arising from static charges - dust adhering to pole pieces, grids jumping out of grid storage boxes, etc. These problems can be greatly reduced by an anti-static gun which sprays ions on to the surface in question. It has been found to be very helpful during sectioning, particularly cryo-sectioning.
